in_a_tizzy asked why I leaned toward John Edwards, and here's why: he's talking about money and populism and, in my opinion, this is the point in politics right now. Simply put, there are too many poor people voting for Republicans who aren't even remotely interested in making their lives better, and it makes me CRAZY. Edwards is the guy who keeps hitting this message and hitting it hard, and I respond to that.

That said, I really didn't appreciate his comments about Hillary Clinton's "emotional breakdown" I mean, please - yesterday something at work pissed me off and I walked into my boss's office with tears in my eyes and told her I was going home. She patted me and sent me off and THAT, dear friends, is how you have an emotional breakdown over something as trivial as paperwork and perpetually fucked up templates and procedures. Hillary feeling strongly about national service? This is somehow a liability?! And besides that, if Hillary IS the nominee, we just really don't need the Rs playing the weak woman card, and I really really really don't appreciate him tripping over himself to be the first to play it. Not cool, John. This is a man who should listen to the women in his life more; his wife and daughters are right about gay marriage and he really ought to be following their lead more on this Hillary thing, too.

I was less than thrilled with the picture CNN put on their homepage; the picture of John McCain when they announced his win was MUCH more flattering. :/ Maybe there have been equally unflattering pictures of the other candidates being used so prominently, but I haven't seen them.

OMG YES. And it's what I didn't understand about my colleagues in the last presidential election - they whine and complain about NCLB and it prevents them from doing their jobs the way they know how to do, and YET THEY VOTED AGAIN FOR THE MAN WHO BROUGHT IT INTO BEING and were proud to do it. I can't fathom the stupidity. It's all because of the stranglehold religion has on people's brains down here, and the politcs of hate the Rs play on.

Agreed on all points. And yes, I had the same reaction to Edwards comments. I expected it from the Rs and the media, but not him.

Agree with all of this. And you know, there's nothing wrong with getting teary-eyed over something stupid at work either. Tears are healthy! And women have more developed tear ducts!

Agreed re: Hillary. I think it's one of the first times I've actually seen her on the election circuit. That's a good thing.

I was not pleased with the Edwards comments. After the speech Hillary gave last night, I'm seriously considering switching allegiances. Edwards gave the same freaking speech he gave in Iowa. Almost verbatim. And he still didn't congratulate the winners. Hillary, on the other hand, has shown amazing growth. It looks like her giving the speeches now, not Hillarybot saying things that she thinks people want to hear. I also thought Obama was very classy, but I'm still on the fence about him. I was not a fan of Hillary initially, but she's growing on me by the day.

And yes, people's seeming inability to vote in their own best interests never ceases to amaze me.
