My understanding of Marry Shag Cliff (what I have always called it) is that the difference between Marry and Shag is longterm -- the person you marry, you get to have sex with, but you ALSO want to have some kind of other relationship with, while the person you pick for Shag, you really have nothing going BUT the sex.
