The last time I went to the store I accidentally bought soda with caffeine and now every night I am WIDE AWAKE OH HI!!! at the time when I am usually trying to fall asleep. And so, a poll about a very important question, brought on by the frantic whirring in my head. OH HI!!!

My sleep issues are their own thing, irrespective of the caffeine, but it always makes me go o.O when people report caffeine actually, like, keeps them awake. Me, it just keeps functional. I am a true and unlikely-to-change junkie. That is to say, if I have none, aside from the headache that sets in within a very few hours--no, seriously, single-digit hours--I pretty much slow to nonfunction. If I did as folks all say and actually didn't drink caffeine after noon? I'd have a caffeine-deficit headache by bedtime much less by the next morning.

And I have been known to drink a quad latte at 7:30 am, go to the gym, do an hour of spin class, shower, come home around 10, and fall immediately asleep for a two-hour nap.

My understanding of Marry Shag Cliff (what I have always called it) is that the difference between Marry and Shag is longterm -- the person you marry, you get to have sex with, but you ALSO want to have some kind of other relationship with, while the person you pick for Shag, you really have nothing going BUT the sex.

My reasoning, basically:

*We know Rodney and Sheppard are appallingly bad at relationships. So Ronon is the only one I feel safe marrying. (Plus, I am still quietly shipping Ronon/Keller--off in a corner, by myself, if necessary.)

*Thus, I either have to kill John or Rodney.

*If I kill John, then I might have to listen to Rodney talk, which is entertaining in fanfic but I am well aware would IRL drive me to homocide eventually, and the name of the game is not KMK.

*So I'll preemptively kill Rodney (though the game does not specify that it can't be a snuff killing) and maybe John and I can just go for coffee.

It's a good debate. By repute both versions were (and possibly still are) played among the Oxford drinking types, with people frequently coming up with triplets two-thirds of whose order varies upon the chastity or otherwise of the marriage.

This is Kristen's reasoning as well, (although I'm pretty damn sure she and Sheppard wouldn't be wasting time with coffee) and it's sound logic, but I keep running into how exceedingly screwed Atlantis would be without Rodney and then there is trouble. Because of the gene, too, I suspect that kind of logic leads to a dead Dex. Which is just horrible, though, because Ronon! He deserves to be happy!

Since Ronon obviously belongs to Keller, I can't marry him, but I'd really like to do him. Sheppard's bad at the marriage thing, but I can't kill him, because as much as I adore Rodney he'd drive me nuts with his ego, so, he's got to go. (plus, with him out of the picture it gets rid of Rodney/Jennifer, and she can go off with Ronon where she ought to be). :P

As Carrie noted, this is totally my reasoning as well. I mean it's HARD. And I love Rodney, in theory, but like you, what would that level of neurosis be like in real life? :))

Mainly, I'm kind of the one climbing the walls, so I need a partner that can pull me down. Ergo, Ronon. And he gets bonus points for being able to throw me around like a ragdoll. :D (and Ronon/Keller FTW)

But also, re: John, there would be no time for coffee drinking. Just lots and lots of fucking. :))

See, objectively I actually am more attracted to Rodney than to John...but I have to kill one of them. Perhaps if "fuck" were specifically designated as "one-night-stand and I never have to see him again," I'd kill John and fuck Rodney, but it's so open-ended and Rodney is so insane I have to take precautions. Maybe I can rent my chance with John out to someone else?

I was terrified from the beginning that Keller would be irrationally shipped with Rodney just because he's Rodney and she's blonde. And while it hasn't been quite that bad, it's still WTF inducing for me. Her and Ronon, all the way. ::sigh::
