wordplay: Drawing of boots on an autumnal background (Autumn boots)
(1) We spent the day in the Alleghenies of western Maryland. I love these eastern mountain ranges - they're so gentle and completely undramatic, so soothing and at their best in the fall. The colors are just beginning to change and when the forests are draped in mist, they just feel so cozy and strangely like home. It was a long day and I'm exhausted but I feel very content. It's possible that this has something to do with the fact that I had the most amazing peanut butter frozen custard today, but I think that peace is centered a little deeper than my stomach.

(2) Wow, how the wank worm turns. Huh.

(3) Speaking of turning worms - this Foley bit is getting NASTY. Hastert? Reynolds? Boehner? Damn.

(4) I can't even engage with what Congress did this week. I can't even think about it, my mind keeps cringing away from it because it's too horrible to consider up close. La la la.

(5) I heard this radio story the other day when M. and I were driving around trying to find a place to have lunch in College Park that wouldn't require a 20 minute wait (yeah, right) and it was great timing b/c the book is sitting on my nightstand. It's a powerful piece of writing, largely because this is a man (and, frankly, he's part of a mini-movement - see the new Dawkins book) who has decided to stop treating religion with the (some say unwarranted) respect it's traditionally been awarded in debates. It's kind of a shocking thing to hear, but it's also very, very timely. I think it's probably a healthy development, for a whole lot of reasons, but that doesn't mean it will be easy or fun.

(6) I have peppermint scented fuzzy socks. They are pink & stripey. Life is just fine. ♥
