Today's 'This Modern World'. I was thinking about this last night, actually, that kicking ass in the 2006 election is all well and good but god I am so Bushwhacked. I can't believe we have another two years of this administration to survive. And the new Supreme Court, sans O'Connor and a more conservative court than we've seen in a long time, is firing up, so there's a lot of reason to be anxious, worried, unsettled. (And note within the article - Texas remains an official no-talking-about-yer-dildo zone. Christ, of all the places in the world that could USE some statewide mind-blowing sex.... *sighs*)
But on the editorial page, the NYT is taking the Repubs to task over the Foley mess and trying to remind us of why the midseason election matters and I guess it's encouraging. The link is here, but full text is behind the cut in case you haven't registered. ( Read more... )
I don't know, I feel like liberals in the US just feel stunned and beaten down and sort of too numb to hope properly. Sometimes I look at this country and this administration and I just honestly can't believe it's come to this and I just want to despair. I imagine Election Day 2008 as one of those crisp, clear fall mornings when you can almost feel the turning of time in the air, and I imagine us all hopeful and buoyant because hurrah, it's finally over, and we made it! But that's two years away, and these next two years are going to be a lot of difficult work and I'm pretty sure it's going to get worse before it's over and god, I just wish it could be November 2008.
The only good thing is that it will be a long time, I hope, before voters look at the two major party candidates and consider them virtually interchangable.
