+ I was only away for three nights (total hours of sleep: 11) and I feel like I was there FOREVER. It was v. fun and I'm exhausted and I talked and laughed so much that I've gone hoarse. *waves mutely to [livejournal.com profile] elsalus, [livejournal.com profile] athenienne, [livejournal.com profile] silver_reverie and the less-than-new people, too*

+ No part of me wants to go back to work tomorrow. Srsly.

+ Also, you know how sometimes you come home from being away and are absolutely exhausted and aren't thinking all that clearly and are just sitting there horrified at the craptasticalness of the news flowing from your perusal of the intarwebs when you finally clue in and realize that it's April 1? Yeah, I totally hate that too.

+ In the short time that I was away, DC blossomed. The flowering trees are white and pink all down I-95 from Baltimore to Washington. For your viewing pleasure, bunnies and cherry blossoms on the Mall!

+ Athens reminds me so, so much of Austin; this is not surprising considering what I'd heard of Athens, but it was still nice to get confirmation. The bar where we drank last night reminded me an awful lot of the Hole in the Wall, except instead of good bar food and good pool tables, there's a tiny bit of sidewalk seating and an extremely solicitous doorman.

On that note, I was shocked and appalled to learn this weekend that people aren't seeing Slacker anymore - I mean, I realize that I am both geographically and cohort-biased to perceive this as a movie that should be seen and enjoyed but I also think that even if you just see it as Richard Linklater's first film, that's worth something. Also, it's hysterical and eeeee, there's Quackenbush's on the Drag and Les Amis. And mentioning 'Slacker' gives me an opportunity to link this essay I've wanted to link here for a while, all about the chances we don't take and the kind of regret that most of us are most in danger of.
