Also, my Firefox freaked out

and I lost 9 rows of tabs. **9 rows**

I have no idea what I've been doing for the last month; it's like it never happened now.

It won't do that "Restore Previous Session" thingy? Or show you your history or recently closed tabs?

[identity profile] wordplay.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Nope. It seriously lost its cool.

To echo the comments below, I didn't even know you could have 9 rows of tabs open.

Tab Mix Plus is my favorite. ♥

I think this begs the question--why on earth did you have nine rows open?! :D

Oh, I'd just cleaned off a few tabs and was headed back toward my usual 7 rows.

Ah, see, I over-bookmark because we have frequent power surges in ye anciente townehouse.

Nine rows of tabs?! Why so many?

[identity profile] wordplay.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
It's useful! And, yeah, I kind of use Firefox as my brain extension. :D

That happened to me last fall. I was doing a research paper on 3 separate topics, so I had a 4 windows open: my fun stuff window, and my 3 research windows. My fun stuff window probably had 3-9 tabs in it, but my research windows each had about 30 tabs of newspaper articles that I'd found on Lexis-Nexis.

Then Firefox crashed, and unfortunately for me, all of my Lexis-Nexis tabs redirected themselves to the main search page when they loaded. I was so upset, especially as the paper was due 2 days from then :P

Good luck!

Oh my god, that story made me a little bit dizzy. How dreadful!

NINE TABS?!?!

Wow.

I almost never run above one row of open tabs -- I think this is not normal amongst Firefox users. It's my OCDness, though. I get freaked out by a lot of open tabs. Nevertheless, that sucks that you lost your bearings like that.

OMG I would die. That sucks.

Wow, I didn't think having nine rows of tabs is that strange. I always have at least four and frequently up to seven or eight.

GOD CARRIE :(( I know how you feel. I haven't had that happen in a while *knocks on wood*

But it's kind of like you lose a part of your life. :)) It's so pathetic.

Having done this more than once, I have gotten into the habit of "bookmarking all" fairly often.

I feel your pain, very very hard.

Tab Mix Plus is my #1 Firefox extension of choice and I have to confess that I used the option which lets you specify the minimum tab width so that I can get 25 tabs in a row, and even then, I often have so many rows that they take up a substantial chunk of the browser window. And, yes, I habitually Bookmark All every night, or sometimes two or three times a day if FF is crashing, with the result that my Bookmark folder is ridiculously long and contains folders of bookmarks from 2006.

It's a stressful and unproductive way of doing things; you always feel like you're behind on things, like you're almost seventy (or two hundred and seventy) tabs in debt. Honestly, at the moment I'm just using MSIE at the moment because there aren't seventy tabs that pop up and nag me what a bad {f|F}riend I'm being for not being able to catch up with things every time I start my browser, which is why I fairly often end up replying to people months after they've posted, which is just not what LJ is about, somehow.

If it's any consolation, we tab abusers are not alone.

Oh, hon. <333 Been there, done that, lost the tab with the link to buy the t-shirt last time Firefox crashed. ;D

I see my husband (who is the expert on surfing the dark edge of tab addiction) has already replied. Somehow I am not surprised. :D
